Déjà vu, all over again. At least once a year, good times or bad, the discussion arises concerning what is the ideal inventory for special finance. I’ve been doing this for more than 20 years, and the answer is always the same: “Sell financing, not inventory.”

Greg Goebel - Every few years it seems that a new “trend” has occurred and ”suddenly” a dealer who normally does a decent job with their inventory hits a brick wall, or so they say. That is usually when the “BS” meter on my desk goes off, resulting in the raised eyebrow some of you have seen.

Dealers all face the same obstacle – where to find the right used vehicles to retail. Special finance inventory is an additional challenge because it has to not only meet the needs of the customers but also meet the criteria of finance companies, all while allowing for an acceptable level of gross profit.

It is one of my Ten Critical Components, with the only component that I rate more important being the underlying commitment to SF. That commitment must run from top to bottom, to ensure all the other components are in place.
